1. Download Anasazi Stop Motion Animator.
2. Hook up your camera to your computer via a USB port.
3. Capture your frames.
4. Record voices on the default voice recorder.
5. Edit it in Windows Movie Maker.
Congrats! You made your first animated film! E-mail it to me at mightymaul@hotmail.com.
I currently use Stop Motion Pro. Its a more high end software. You can try a demo of it that has all of the features, but watermarks in the videos.
For flash-style movies, Artoonix is probably the best option. And if you already have flash, you can create your cartoons 10 times easier and be able to export it as a flash file.
For a free effect/editing software, you should use Wax. You can use this for a chroma key if you don't have Stop Motion Pro. You just have to convert your .avi files from Anasazi into .wmv by using Windows Media Player.
If you want better audio quality and the ability to layer audio, Audacity is my choice. It gives you the option to do multiple recordings and string them into 1 .wav file. The audio quality is also a lot better and doesn't have the small amount of static that voice recorder has.
